Our horses have just returned from a successful weekend at the Edenbridge and Oxted show where Joanne with Star and Metts won the pairs private driving competition. Joanne used the hooded Mills Spyder Phaeton and wore one of our new fabulous driving hats in yellow and black. We are now delighted to announce that we are able to offer this beautiful range of elegant ladies hats and will soon be appearing on the website. These are English hats and are available in any colour, any size. If you send us your jacket we can provide an exact match.

(JUST ARRIVED) Our latest show carriage. We have had excellent immediate results with our new Mills Hooded Spyder Phaeton. This lovely vehicle was only a few days old when Joanne took this to the New Forest Show where she won the Reserve Championship driving Star and Metts who are also the leaders in her team. We also had a very enjoyable drive in the multiple class where Joanne drove our team of Friesian's to one of our Body Breaks finished in cream and black. We had 9 people on the carriage and it performed superbly both in the ring and over the russet tracks of the new forest marathon drive.

A few days later we were off to Cranleigh show where Michael did very well using our restored Irish Jaunting Cart. He came second in the Light Trade class.
In the private driving class Star and Metts won this competition and took the show Championship.

Also coming soon is one of our first Spyder Lights. This is a new competition Spyder that we have developed with the factory. The vehicle will come with rear disc brakes and a parking break and will weigh only around 200KGS. This vehicle will be available for all sizes of horses and ponies.

The 2010 season started with the Hartland team going to Heathfield on the 29th May which resulted in Joanne Hartland driving Star and Metts to the Mills Reproduction Spyder to win the Private Driving over 13.2hh class. Michael Hartland also took part driving Taggart and Tyson to a 1909 Flemmings of Reading Dog Cart, restored by Hartland UK LTD in 2009.

Joanne went through to the Private Driving Championship where Star and Metts driven by Joanne took Show Champions.

Success was once again gained at The South Of England Show on the 11th May, where Joanne once again driving Star and Metts to the Mills Reproduction Spyder took second place in the Pairs class with Michael Hartland driving Taggart and Tyson to the restored original Dog Cart where he was also placed.

Joanne took the Reserve placing in the Concour de Eligance behind, a turnout owned by Terri and Albert Brazier with Terri driving CallistaLodge Joe to a brand new Mills Reproduction Spyder built by Hartland UK LTD. The turnout looked very elegant and therefore a very big WELL DONE goes to Terri Brazier with CallistaLodge Joe. We look forward to many more successes throughout the 2010 season.

On the 12th May, Michael Hartland exhibited Tyson in the 2 Wheeled Light Trade Class. The first outing for Michael and Tyson as a single to an Original 1910 Jaunting Cart, restored by Hartland UK LTD, proved a valuable driving experience into the world of Trade classes.

he BDS annual show on 20th June, held at Smith's Lawn, allowed Hartland Carriages to present a number of turnouts in a variety of classes. The morning started with the pair and multiples class with Star and Metts driven by Joanne Hartland to Mills Reproduction Spyder and Michael Hartland driving Taggart and Tyson to a 1909 Flemmings of Reading Dog Cart, restored by Hartland UK LTD in 2009. A high turnout level was seen within this class however success was seen with Joanne taking 1st place closely followed by Michael taking 3rd place.

Following this class Michael entered the coloured class where he hoped to retain his title from the year before, however, with such a good standard of competition he was happy to achieve 2nd place with Taggart and Tyson being narrowly beaten by Geoff Osborne, another Hartland owner!!

With so many outings this season, Michael was able to show his beautifully restored 1909 Flemmings of Reading Dog Cart in the Vintage class. Once again the Vintage vehicles were turned out to a very high standard. This was a very competitive class and resulted in Michael taking 3rd place.

Having gained experience in the Light Trade class at the S.O.E show, Michael was eager to try his hand at it again. Knowing the class would be highly competitive, Michael drove Tyson who showed to love the class with a little spirit of which Michael enjoyed giving him the chance to gain 7th place in his second outing with his newly restored Jaunting Cart – with 13 seasoned competitors he was very pleased with this position.....we never stop learning and he has learnt a few ring craft tips to use in future trade competitions. It is a different type of showing to private driving!!!

Having won the pairs and multiples class Joanne was asked to return for the Show Championship where competition was tight. Having enjoyed her day Joanne drove Star and Metts to take 2nd Reserve.

Overall the season has started well with hope that such success will continue throughout 2010.

We hope to get to the Warfield show, BDS surrey and then on to the New Forest show with 2 x pairs and our team in the multiple classes.

We have just received delightful photos from Trish Duncan up in
Scotland.  She has just taken delivery of hew new Criss Cross.  Trish  opted for the
non puncture tyres on her carriage.  Her Norwegian Fjord pony  Romy is in
foal and at present doing a little work....apparently they are all  having
great fun!

Well done to Wendy Mason who had a great start to the new Season with her coloured horse Bobby.  they won the North East driving trials at Escrick Park in April.  Wendy was using her Hartland Prosport.  Wendy also drives a Hartland Versatile with her other coloured warmblood Brooklyn.
Kate Dodson from Devon sent us this nice photo of her driving Sam and Bobby in their Hartland Versatile.  Both of these horses have been previously driven by Joanne in her coloured team.  They now have a wonderful time with Kate and Roger - Sam does pairs and Bobby does single, pair and riding too.
Kate also  uses the Hi Tech horse/cob pairs harness.....
We have just heard from Kirstin Nadin in New Zealand.  She bought a 2nd hand Hartland carriage from us during the winter.  She has just won all 3 section of a large championship in New Zealand and emerged the Champion with her single horse.  Kirstin drives with no winkers - her horse having been well trained with out them (not to be tried if your horse has been broken with winkers).......

We are now regularly sending to Australia and New Zealand - harnesses and carriages....we have a good shipping company acting on our behalf and we can send anywhere in the world now!!
Hannah Kelly has been having continued success with her hackney horse and her Hartland Topsport.  We have just received these photos of her competing.  She has had an excellent indoor season ....  Her Dad Matt is on the backstep!!
This is our latest restoration project that has been a complete success. We purchased this
Irish jaunting cart
from the Reading sales in November 2009. As you can see from these photos the vehicle was in need of total restoration and was sent to our workshop.

This restoration has now been carried out and the vehicle returned to us, and as you will be able to see from the photos to follow, our workshop has made a first class job on this restoration.

They have restored this vehicle to it's former glory!

EXCITING LIGHT TRADE NEWS

We have just had a visit from Mike Clark from COUNRTY HARVEST together with his stunning horse THORNEYSIDE THE FORMAN. As many of you will know George (his stable name) is none other than HARNESS HORSE OF THE YEAR. This season Mike will be competing George in Light Trade classes and we are delighted to have built him an elegant Trade Delivery Van. This vehicle has swan neck shafts with traditional fittings and the rear of the vehicle is fitted out with shelves and baskets. Mike opted to have the carriage finished in traditional coach builders bottle green unders with a black body.

The carriage fitted George beautifully and we are sure everyone will agree that they make a lovely turnout. Our signwriter is about to spring into action and sign write the vehicle.

Standby to see this stunning carriage in the show ring in the not too distant future!

A delighted Sara Howe - National Pony Team Champion - took delivery of her new
HARTLAND TEAM STAR
- a pony team carriage specially built for her team of small "pocket rockets"!!  This smart 3 phase carriage can be used for driving either a pair or a team.  It can be weighted up from pony pair weight to pony team weight and it has the necessary sport suspension to give a really good ride in both classes.  Sara won the National Championship this year with an older HARTLAND carriage and decided to upgrade.  It is important to her that she can use the carriage for when she teaches pair driving and for schooling her leaders and wheelers as pairs.  She did not want to have to have two carriages, so our engineers designed the Teamstar for her.

Watch out for Sara at next years National and International Team competitions in her new carriage.

Congratulations to Sue Cole with Vlaq Redwood Reflection at BDS Area 37 with her HARTLAND Gig winning all four of her classes and taking a Championship and two Reserve Championships, as well as numerous Best Turned Out Whip, Best Turned Out Groom and Best Novice Rosettes.

Congratulations to Alan Clarke Reverse National Pony Team Champion, using a HARTLAND Pony Team Carriage.
Well Done to Wendy Strongberg For Winning Reverse National Single Horse Champion At The National Championships Windsor. Using her HARTLAND Spyder Phaeton

Well done to our Team on winning the Multiple class at Edenbridge Show on Bank Holiday Monday.  they used our Hartland Show Harness with full collars and Joanne drove them in our Hartland Body Break.

At the Heathfield Show in May our Friesian pair Star and Metts had a good win in the large private driving then went on to take the Driving Championship.  Joanne drove them to one of our lovely Mills spyders.  They also had a good win at the South of England show in June and were second in a HUGE Concours  class there too.  Michael, driving Taggart and Tyson his coloured pair were 4th at the South of England show, using our new Round Backed Phaeton.  At Smiths Lawn Star and Metts were best pair in the multiple class and Michael and Taggart and Tyson took the honours in the coloured class.  Obviously the harness used was our lovely Hartland Show harness......

In her first outing with a Hartland Mills Spyder Clare Wigmore won the Concours at Smiths Lawn with her gelderlander pair.  Well done Clare.

Tabe Annema has just taken Reserve Champion at Cranleigh show with his Hartland Original Dog cart with his lovely Friesian mare.

Rupert and his Micrasport

Now for some very exciting news.  Rupert Barnard - young son of Minta Winn LHHI - is driving  a couple of our carriages now.  He will be out and about on the indoor circuit this year.  He is driving Buster a 12.3 hand Hackney pony.  He had an outstanding success last weekend at the International CKD cup where he won a Gold and was part of the Silver winning team,......Rupert commented how well his Micrasport went cross country and how nicely he felt it "followed through"" on the cone rounds.  This carriage is particularly well suited to smaller ponies - we also now offer a Micrasport that can be used for single and pair driving.  Check these out in our Micrasport section...................

Well good news just coming in from Wales!  Penny Wear who has just bought one of our spyder phaetons had a good win at the weekend........more photos and details to come.....!!
